The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption named the 2008 "Shining Star"Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption Named 2008 "Shining Star" at the Democratic and Republican National Conventions Presented by Congressional Quarterly and The Creative Coalition
The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption is honored to have received the Shining Star Award presented by Congressional Quarterly (CQ) and The Creative Coalition at both the Democratic and Republican National Conventions for its significant work finding forever families for children in foster care. The Foundation has helped connect tens of thousands of children with loving, permanent families since its creation by Dave Thomas in 1992.
“Our future rests with our children and we are honored to be recognized for our tireless work on behalf of waiting children,” said Rita Soronen, Executive Director of the Foundation. “Today, in the United States of America, there are 129,000 children who have been abused or neglected or abandoned and who are waiting for what too many of us may take for granted – the love and support of a family. Dave Thomas, the late American business icon, an adopted child, and our founder said, ‘These children are not someone else’s responsibility. They are our responsibility.’ We are working with a sense of urgency at the Foundation through our national signature awareness, direct service and advocacy programs to find them families. We believe that all children must be a priority across political, economic, cultural and business entities.”
On hand to honor the Foundation’s work are Robin Bronk, Executive Director of The Creative Coalition, Robert Merry, President and Editor-in-Chief of CQ and Creative Coalition members J. Paul DiJoria, Tim Daly, Tony Goldwyn, Spike Lee, Richard Schiff, Alan Cumming, Connie Britton, Rachael Leigh Cook others.
