Voice of Experience: Time Inc.
|
“In 2004, my wife and I traveled to Brazil for the adoption of four and six year-old siblings. A year later, we learned that our children had a three year-old brother who had been adopted in Brazil and was possibly in need of a new home after his adoptive mother died suddenly. We returned to Brazil six months later for another adoption. Having three kids in two years, including two with disabilities, has been difficult, but the Adoption Assistance program at Time Inc. has helped. I spent 13 weeks in Brazil between 2004 and 2005, and Time Inc. was not only able to accommodate with its family leave policy, but the financial assistance through reimbursement of some of the adoption expenses has made our family possible.” Darryl Smith

"My adoption experience was surprisingly smooth and exhilarating; in no small part due to the open and accommodating environment here at Time Inc. In November of 2005, my spouse Calvin and I started the adoption ball rolling. By the end of May 2006, Calvin and I were both proud (albeit shocked) dads of a gorgeous girl. Maneuvering around our different departments, which I feared might be an encumbering, bureaucratic maze, was a consistently simple, positive and very supportive experience. It was a challenging time, but the rough waters were mercifully calmed by the helpful assistance and professionalism of Time Inc. and the overall acceptance of diversity in this working environment. I offer my sincere thanks to Time Inc. for such solid devotion to gay and adoptive families." Michael Cruz
