Forever family created 12/30/11
December 30, 2011
In December of 2003, police brought Jasmine, her older sister and three cousins to a local shelter. They had responded to a medical alert call placed by Jasmine on behalf of her older sister, who was feeling dizzy and couldn’t walk. Jasmine’s older sister had been caring for all of the children for the previous two days and both mothers had not been heard from.
When police arrived, they found no food in the home. Jasmine and her siblings had previously been in child protection in several states because of neglect and domestic violence. Jasmine also has two older brothers who were placed with family.
In 2006, Jasmine moved to a relative placement with her sister’s biological family. Three months later, the family returned her. She was then placed in another pre-adoptive foster placement, but she was removed from this home as well. She had a total of 19 placements since entering foster care.
After being referred to a Wendy’s Wonderful Kids recruiter, Jasmine was interested in adoption and found a family that she really liked because they seemed down to earth and easy to talk to. She was excited that even though they had toddlers, they still wanted to parent a teenager.
When Jasmine’s adoptive parents met her for the first time in August, 2011, they knew that they had met their daughter. Jasmine moved into her new home on October 1, 2011 and her adoption was finalized on December 30, 2011.
