At the heart of the work of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption is the belief that justice and the right to be free of fear and harm must be equally applied to all of our children. The murders of Ahmaud Abrery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Tony McDade and so many other Black Americans are a tragic reminder that injustice and inequality continue to pierce the heart of America and wound our friends, neighbors and fellow citizens.
For nearly 30 years, the Foundation has been focused on one mission: to dramatically increase the number of adoptions of children waiting in North America’s foster care systems. We believe that every child deserves a safe, loving and permanent home. That belief does not waver based on a child’s race, religious affiliation, color, creed, national origin, sexual orientation, physical disability or any other characteristic.
The Foundation is steadfast in our commitment to social justice and is determined to stand with and act in support of the Black community to advocate for policies that end structural racism, address the overrepresentation of Black children in America’s foster care system, and promote equitable opportunities for every child. Black lives matter.
We must work together to create a future that our children deserve — one that upholds and celebrates diversity, inclusion and equality for all.
