Wendy’s® Gives Back 2022

Posted on December 5, 2022

For more than 30 incredible years, the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption and Wendy’s have had a special relationship built on a shared commitment to achieving our mutual founder Dave Thomas’ vision that every child will have a permanent home and a loving family.

Since 1992, The Wendy’s Company, franchise owners and operators, suppliers, employees and customers have raised more than $250 million in support of the Foundation’s mission.

Following are highlights of the many ways that the Wendy’s family worked together to continue their impactful partnership with the Foundation during the 2022 fiscal year.

The Challenge

In 2021, Wendy’s issued its annual challenge to each operator to sell at least 1,000 Boo! Books™ and 1,000 Frosty® Key Tags per restaurant. The funds raised through these in-restaurant campaigns are critical to helping the Foundation expand its impact for children who have been waiting in foster care the longest. Through the challenge, the Wendy’s system and their generous customers raised nearly $13 million, including more than $7 million in Frosty Key Tags and a record $5.8 million in Boo! Books.

Dave’s Legacy of Love Society is a special recognition of the franchise groups that met the challenge. The Foundation is excited to celebrate the sixteen franchise organizations, including nine new honorees to the Society!

Delight Restaurant Group, led by brothers Andrew and Rich Krumholz, was inducted into the Dave’s Legacy of Love Society. Each of their 129 Wendy’s locations across three states sold, on average, 3,000 Boo! Books and 1,300 Frosty Key Tags per restaurant. Their tremendous efforts resulted in nearly $750,000 to benefit the Foundation’s mission.
While this is Delight Restaurant Group’s first year in the society, they are the first to tell you that their team is just getting started.

Wendy’s restaurants in the greater Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio areas decided to go all-in to support foster care adoption by choosing the Foundation as the beneficiary of their long-standing, in-restaurant campaign: $1 Pin-Ups. Together, the restaurants raised nearly $53,000 in support of our mission. Thank you to the franchise leaders, general managers and crews in these 128 restaurants for their dedication to finding forever families for children in foster care!

Thank you, Payroll Deduction Donors

Wendy’s franchisees in the New York area hosted the first annual New York Gala benefiting the Foundation’s mission. The event, led by franchise leaders, Lou Meyer and Laura Butrico, had 188 participants, raising more than $200,000 to benefit the Foundation. This success is a testament to Lou and Laura’s incredible leadership and their unwavering support.

The Foundation was grateful to be named the beneficiary of the 11th annual Buona Vitas Charity Golf Tournament in November 2021. Sponsored by Quint Graham and the Carolina Restaurant Group, the tournament had more than 130 participants and raised more than $50,000. We are so thankful for this partnership!

THANK YOU
to all our supporters for sharing our belief that every child deserves a permanent home and a loving family.
