Apex Benefits Group Gives Flexibility and Support to Parents who Foster and Adopt

Posted on April 26, 2023

In 2020, Andrea became a licensed foster parent for older youth — a decision that would ultimately change her life.

Shortly after obtaining her license, Andrea met 10-year-old Kaylen. Kaylen had been in foster care for three years and was longing for a permanent home. It wasn’t long after Kaylen was placed in Andrea’s care before they knew they were meant to be family. And four months later, Andrea decided to adopt Kaylen.

With the help of the benefits offered through her employer, Apex Benefits Group, Andrea was able to finalize the adoption in 2021.

“When I decided to come work for (Apex), a big part of my reasoning was the fact that they supported me being a foster parent and prioritized flexibility and family,” said Andrea.

Today, with the support of her forever family, Kaylen is an honor roll student, passionate about art and wants to be a teacher when she grows up.

Apex Benefits Group was recognized by the Foundation as a 2022 Adoption Advocate as part of the Best Adoption-Friendly Workplace program. To learn more about how your organization can become an adoption-friendly workplace, download the free toolkit at davethomasfoundation.org/afw
