During the 2023 Wendy’s Wonderful Kids® Summit, the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption recognized Anna, a Wendy’s Wonderful Kids recruiter from Orchard’s Children Services in Michigan, as a Recruiter of the Year. Anna is an advocate and a source of hope for the children she serves.

Through its Wendy’s Wonderful Kids program, the Foundation supports the hiring of adoption recruiters, like Anna, who are dedicated to finding permanent homes for the longest-waiting children in foster care.
For the past three years, Anna has served children lingering in foster care in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. She prides herself on being able to make a connection with every child in her care.
“I have a habit of keeping in contact with a lot of the kids that I have found permanency for,” said Anna. “They still call me. They still text me. And that keeps me very motivated to keep doing what I’m doing because I can see that what I’m doing is working.”
Anna works to build trusted relationships with each child in her care to fully understand what they want and need in a safe, permanent family.
“It’s not about the workers that you have to deal with. It’s not about the other families that you have to deal with. It’s about the child,” explained Anna. “This is for someone who doesn’t have a voice, someone who can’t do the things that I’m doing … so, that’s what I’m doing for them.”
