How Capital One Supported Chelsea’s Adoption Journey
As an adopted child herself, Chelsea always dreamed of adopting a child. Shortly after marrying her husband, Kodi, life gave her an unexpected chance to make her dream a reality. In December 2017, while the newlyweds shopped for Christmas gifts for their niece and nephew, Joseph and Aubrey, they learned the two young children had been placed in foster care. Without hesitation, they stepped forward to become their parents. Chelsea and Kodi were granted custody and transitioned into the role of mom and dad. They officially adopted Joseph and Aubrey in June 2021.
The family’s adoption journey didn’t end there. By June 2023, Chelsea and Kodi had fostered over 50 children, adopted two children and welcomed their biological son, Andrew. Around that time, what began as a temporary placement for a child named Evie became forever when the family adopted her in June 2023.
Throughout her family’s adoption experiences, Capital One provided support in ways Chelsea never imagined. They helped cover adoption costs and provided paid parental leave, allowing Chelsea and Kodi time to bond with their children and provide a forever home. It meant the world, especially as they navigated their greatest challenge: being parents in a rapidly expanding family.
Chelsea encourages others considering adoption to educate their families about adoption and to remain open to all the ways to support children waiting in foster care. Whether through advocacy, volunteering, supporting other families or opening your home, there are many ways to make a difference. For Chelsea’s family, adopting and fostering have been a truly transformative journey.
