Supporter Spotlights of 2022

Posted on December 5, 2022

The following individuals represent our ever-growing base of supporters who are passionately powering the Foundation’s mission. We are humbled to share some of the many reasons they support our work.

Pat Swanick and his wife, Diana, have a special place in their hearts for adoption. Both originally from Pennsylvania, the couple has also lived in Ohio, Texas and Oregon.

Pat was adopted two months after he was born. His biological mother was not married when she became pregnant, and she was not sure she would marry Pat’s biological father. Since she felt she was unable to properly provide for Pat, she made sure he was placed for adoption with a reputable orphanage where she had trained as a nurse.

Fortunately, Pat was matched with a couple who were unable to have children of their own and wanted a family. After adopting Pat, they also adopted Tony, who came from a different biological family and was living in another orphanage.

The Foundation is now partnering with The Giving Block to accept gifts of cryptocurrency. Donating through cryptocurrency is one of the most tax-efficient ways to support our mission.

We are humbled by the generosity of this year’s cryptocurrency donors, like Bill Perkins.

Lauren Okura, a graphic designer and the co-founder of Pono Design Studio in Chicago, Illinois, has been a monthly donor to the Foundation since 2019.

Outside of her support for the Foundation, Lauren is involved with other causes that advocate for and work to protect children, women, LGBTQ+ youth and underserved communities. She has also done several media interviews and written pieces advocating for children.

We are honored and humbled to have passionate supporters, like Lauren, who are dedicated to helping address the urgent need for foster care adoption.

Clay and Lindsay Luton became monthly donors to the Foundation in July 2021.

Nearly five years ago, the couple adopted their youngest daughter from China. Since then, they have remained connected to the adoption community, gathering with other families to celebrate and support one another. They have seen, first-hand, the tremendous impact adoption can have not just on the life of a child, but also on the family and community at large.

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption received an unconditional, multi-million dollar donation from philanthropist and author MacKenzie Scott to help advance our mission.

The Foundation is deeply humbled by Ms. Scott’s gift, and with her support, will be able to continue expanding the reach and impact of our national awareness campaigns and innovative programs.

THANK YOU
to all our supporters for sharing our belief that every child deserves a permanent home and a loving family.
