Most people are surprised when Amy Chang shares that she can vividly remember what it felt like to be given up for adoption as a baby. Born in South Korea, Amy was adopted when she was three months old. Seven months later, she was placed in the foster care in the United States, where she was adopted by her parents and became a little sister to their other adopted daughter.

“I can remember crying and the sadness I felt,” Amy said of the early months of her life. “And then I think about how fortunate I was for my loving parents to adopt me. Those feelings and memories last until this day.”

Now that she is a parent herself, Amy says her feelings toward the importance of family have only grown stronger.

“Family means a lot of different things to me, but when I think about my own children now, it means love and safety,” Amy said. “It’s so much more challenging to grow up today than when I was a child … and so, having a family to help you navigate the ups and downs of growing up is critical.”

As she reflected on her story and began sharing it with her audience on social media, Amy says she was inspired to join the Foundation’s caring community of supporters helping to find permanent homes for the thousands of children in the United States who are waiting to be adopted from foster care right now.

“Finding the right forever home for a child takes a combination of the best intentions and love, but also a lot of resources, attention and coordination,” Amy said. “The mission of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption has never been more important.”

Thank you, Amy Chang, for your commitment to advancing the Foundation’s mission.
