What do Adoption Benefits Mean to Employees?

Every year, the Foundation shares the results of the Best Adoption-Friendly Workplace survey and encourages organizations large, medium and small to offer adoption and foster care benefits to their employees.

But what do these benefits really mean to foster and adoptive parents? Hear more from families built with support from employer-provided benefits and the impact made on their path to parenthood ❤️

Hannah – Carter’s

When Hannah opened her home to Hayden as a foster parent, her life changed forever. The two of them became forever family when Hayden’s adoption was finalized at age 3. Support from Hannah’s employer, Carter’s, helped make Hayden’s adoption possible. Now, they are making special memories together as a family … and her work family at Carter’s is joining in the celebration.

Cutout of Hannah and Hayden with quote from Hannah: “Rather than a typical baby shower to celebrate his arrival, my colleagues welcomed Hayden to the Carter’s family with a large ‘adoption party’ complete, with all his favorite foods, silly games and loads of special books to build his home library.”

Jason – Verisk Analytics

Jason’s journey to fatherhood was challenging, but he never gave up hope. With help from adoption benefits provided by his employer, Verisk Analytics, Jason was finally able to bring his daughter home. And the support of his team at Verisk meant the world to him.

Cutout of Jason holding his daughter with quote: "Knowing I could take paid time off to bond and care for my daughter was immensely helpful in starting my new family. As a single dad, Verisk has continued to be extremely supportive in my work-life balance."

My daughter deserves a dad who fights for her and pursues what he loves. I didn’t have to make the unthinkable choice between a family and a flourishing career. Jason shared.

Felicia – Bank of America

Bank of America’s Family Planning Reimbursement program covered a large portion of the legal fees associated with Felicia’s family’s adoption. With their help, Felicia and her partner Ruth adopted all three of their daughters.

I have the past few months. I’ve received personal notes.
A colleague even sent me
three blankets she made with the girls’ names embroidered on them. It has been such a warm experience.

Justin – Robins & Morton

Justin and his wife Lacie talked about adoption for years, and support from Justin’s employer, Robins & Morton, helped to make that dream a reality.

Quote from Justin reads: "“It is hard to truly express what it means for your employer to support your adoption efforts, but I think it communicates that they truly care about you as an individual and as a leader of your family outside of your professional career and obligations."

“There is also continued support from the Robins & Morton family through the post-adoption process, and for this, my wife and I are eternally grateful.” Justin shared.

Kelli – VML

Kelli and her husband waited more than two years for the phone call that changed their life and started their adoption journey. Adoption benefits provided by her employer, VML, helped make their journey possible. But their unwavering support of Kelli every step of the way meant the most.

Cutout of Kelli and her family. Quote reads: “VML was pledging their support, both financially and emotionally. They brought us through some of the dark times and helped us celebrate in the best of times. We were able to place focus where focus should be in that moment, on our family.”
