National Adoption Month: 4 Ways to Help

November is National Adoption Month — a special time to celebrate families that have grown through adoption and raise awareness of the thousands of children in foster care across the United States and Canada who are waiting for someone to step forward to adopt them.
That includes youth like Bridgett, who lived in more than a dozen foster homes in one year before being adopted. Thankfully, Bridgett’s journey changed when she was referred to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption’s Wendy’s Wonderful Kids® program and met her adoption recruiter, LaTasha.
With help from LaTasha and the Foundation’s caring community of supporters, Bridgett was adopted by Jeremy and Jennifer at age 16.
“When I first moved in, I wasn’t really planning on being adopted. I was already 15 so I didn’t think I would be. But then I just got settled in here and that changed my mind because I just liked being here,” Bridgett shared.
Here are 4 ways you can make a difference during National Adoption Month and throughout the year:
1. Learn about becoming a foster or adoptive parent
Our step-by-step guide can help you or someone you know begin their journey. Serving as a mentor for a child in foster care is another valued role in their village of supporters.
2. Wear your support
Our newly released 2025 Awareness Collection is out now! Wear your support to elevate the conversation about the urgent need for our cause wherever you go!
3. Share your favorite #MadeWithLove recipe
This month on social media, the Foundation is sharing recipes from people whose lives have been touched by foster care and adoption. These recipes, which are all #MadeWithLove, will raise awareness to help ensure every child can experience special memories, like meals and other traditions, with a forever family of their own.
It’s easy to serve up the fun!
- Follow the Foundation on Facebook and Instagram
- Like and share our #MadeWithLove posts throughout the month

4. Tell us your story
Has your life been impacted by foster care and/or adoption? Share your story for an opportunity to be featured on social media, guest blogs and other platforms, to inspire and support others.
How ever you choose to get involved, know that YOU are making a life-changing difference. Thank you for believing in and helping to realize our vision of a permanent home and a loving family for every child.
