National Adoption Month: 4 Ways to Help
November is National Adoption Month — a special time to celebrate families that have grown through adoption and raise awareness of the thousands of children in foster care across the United States and Canada who are waiting for someone to step forward to adopt them.
That includes youth like Allison and Austin, who spent more than two years in foster care, waiting for a family. Thankfully, their journey changed when they were referred to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption’s Wendy’s Wonderful Kids® program and met their adoption recruiter, Mikayla.
With help from Mikayla and the Foundation’s caring community of supporters, Allison and Austin were adopted at ages 9 and 7.
“Growing up with my brother makes me the happiest,” Allison shared with a smile.
“I’m glad my sister and me are together,” Austin added. “Adoption to me means that I’ll have a great home.”

1. Learn about becoming a foster or adoptive parent
